"Earning more money is the first step to self-liberation"

I don't support the un-aliving of CEOs of companies you don't agree with.

That shouldn't be a controversial statement, but last week I took that opinion to Threads and was subsequently torn apart for it about 1,000 times over.

Many of the replies mentioned the fact that this action was almost cathartic, with many feeling like UHC had harmed countless others by refusing to accept or pay out their health insurance claims to their customers

And look, I get it.

I've had family members hospitalized, and with a kid I'm more reliant on the healthcare system than ever.

And I agree that the current system of processing healthcare benefits is unfair, broken, and leaves many in the cold both metaphorically and physically when they're discharged with nowhere else to go.

But what did this killing change for the better? Sure it's a viral story on social and in the news, and many companies are now taking measures to hide any public mentions of their most senior executives.

But that's a defensive response. It's entrenchment, as they hire private security firms and add additional layers of corporate fog to shield themselves from the public.

And that won't lead to a better healthcare outcome for anybody.

In my opinion, the best thing you can do for yourself and your family's health is to get rich.

Or at least create some economic security so you can weather the impact of a sudden illness or hospitalization.

Because mythologizing a masked shooter shooting some guy in the back and cheering on a revolution you know in your heart is not going to happen feels good now, but in six months I can almost guarantee there will be no lasting positive effect on the outcomes of UHC customers and their claims. Which is the real issue here.

In essence, this is the role of the positive pragmatist: hopeful for change. But playing to win.

My camera roll this week:
